Custom plush is priced per piece, but the per-piece price is the output of about a dozen variables. There is no honest single number for “how much a plush costs” without knowing your design, size, quantity, materials, packaging, and testing. What this guide does instead is unpack each cost driver so you can read a quotation, compare quotes apples-to-apples, and brief the factory in a way that gets you a sharper number.
We are an owned plush factory in Dongguan, China — manufacturing custom plush since 1998. Pricing below reflects how factory-direct quotes are built. Sourcing-agent quotes will look different because they layer a margin on top.
A custom plush quotation is built from these inputs:
A simple two-color animal silhouette costs less than a multi-accessory character with embroidered details and a printed apron. More panels means more cutting, more sewing, more QC.
The fabric and filling combination drives a meaningful share of unit cost. See Custom Plush Materials Guide for the long version. In short:
Plush cost scales non-linearly with size. A 30 cm plush is usually well over 2x a 15 cm plush, because fabric usage, stuffing weight, and sewing time all grow.
Per-piece price drops as quantity rises. The biggest cost-per-unit improvements typically show up between low MOQ (around 500 pcs) and high-volume tiers (several thousand pcs and up). For selected custom plush projects, MOQ may start from 500 pcs. See Custom Plush MOQ Explained.
Retail-ready packaging adds real cost. Promotional or B2B-only product can often skip the heavier packaging.
Testing such as EN71 / ASTM / CPSIA / REACH can be arranged according to target market and order requirements. Each test report is its own line item. Certificates may include BSCI, ISO 9001, FAMA, OEKO-TEX, AQL 2.5, depending on the program and current factory holdings — see Toy Safety Certificate.
EXW, FOB Yantian/Shenzhen, CIF, and DDP all produce different delivered numbers. Sea freight is standard for full pallets / cartons; air for samples and urgent top-ups.
A clean quote shows:
If a quote is missing material spec or packaging spec, you can’t compare it to anything. Ask.
Sample fees are usually USD 150–200 per design depending on complexity. Sample fees are refundable for confirmed bulk orders of 3,000 pcs or more. Sample lead time is usually 7–14 days after artwork and details are confirmed. See Custom Plush Sample Process.
Buyers sometimes resist sample fees on principle. We push back gently: a paid sample disciplines both sides. The factory builds it carefully because you’ve paid for it; you treat it as a real review checkpoint because you’ve invested in it. Free samples often signal that the cost is hidden somewhere else in the quote.
Plan back from your in-warehouse date. Trade shows, holidays, and crowdfunding fulfillment all have hard dates that don’t move.
Plush is a forgiving category up to a point and unforgiving past it. Cheap fabric pills. Under-stuffed plush deflates. Mis-matched embroidery is visible from across the room. We don’t position on lowest price and we don’t quote with hard “save X%” claims, because the buyers who win in plush are the ones who specify well, sample carefully, and price for the right materials — not the ones who chased the bottom of the market.
Send your artwork, target quantity, and project details to request a factory-direct quote. We come back with a quote that lists materials, packaging, sample fee, lead times, and any testing — not just a single number.
Q: Can you give a ballpark price for a 25 cm custom plush? A: Not without seeing the design. Embroidery density, fabric choice, and packaging move the number too much. Send a brief and we’ll quote.
Q: Why does the per-unit price drop so much at higher MOQs? A: Setup costs (pattern, fabric cutting, machine time) are amortized across more pieces. At low MOQs each unit absorbs more setup; at high MOQs setup is rounding error.
Q: Are samples included in the unit price? A: No. Sample fees are quoted separately, usually USD 150–200 per design. The fee is refundable for confirmed bulk orders of 3,000 pcs or more.
Q: Is testing included? A: Testing such as EN71, ASTM, CPSIA, and REACH is quoted as a separate line. The applicable tests depend on your target market and order specifics.
Q: What incoterms do you quote? A: Quotes are usually shown EXW or FOB by default. CIF and DDP can be arranged on request.
Q: How firm are quotes once issued? A: Quotes are typically valid for 30 days, subject to material price changes. We re-quote if specs change or if a long delay shifts the materials market.
